Now, since I know having some certs and doing some reading does not make one an expert overnight, I really wanted to find a way to connect with an expert like Josh, so I could offer the non-profits of the chamber not only my services, but the services of a seasoned pro as well. Keep the clients needs first in your mind is my philosophy, and your own success will follow.

Well, it turns out that Charlie Ellis, of Operation Enduring Gratitude (A great organization serving Veterans, which I help in their website and Salesforce development) happened to know Josh Barsch and encouraged me to reach out to him. A Simple Veterans Day Story About Kindness

This world can make us jaded. This is particularly the case for veterans like myself who in their service have dealt with scary times, had to endure disability, seen the darker side of humanity, and deal with a soul crushing bureaucracy thinly veiled by motivational platitudes. This is why many of us veterans seem to posses slightly cynical attitudes towards large organizations and motivational buzz-words. This is why my encounter with a sale rep at Salesforce on Veterans day was so surprising... and refreshing

I've been helping the non-profit Operation Enduring Gratitude with their Salesforce implementation and needed pricing on one of the Salesforce products. The sales rep, working on veterans day while others were enjoying a day off, called to give me the information I needed. During our conversation, he explained that he just got off a difficult call with an abusive customer. I don't know about you, but I find it challenging to keep a good attitude after such situations. But not this rep. He was wonderfully cordial and helpful. Then as we chatted further about Veterans Day and the friends and family members of his that were veterans, he asked me something incredibly thoughtful and heart-warming.

"What does Veterans Day mean to you?" he asked. I was taken aback. I've never been asked that question. While rambling out a less than coherent and lengthy response, the question was making me think about Veterans Day, and veterans and their needs perhaps more than I had ever thought before. It made me think of those that sacrificed much more than myself, only mildly disabled from my service.

It brought to mind a friend that I had served with in the First Gulf War who made it back like myself. But the day I got back to my base, I picked up the base paper and saw his name as one of those killed in a recent helicopter crash. For many of us, this day is a day to enjoy ourselves, to rest ourselves, thinking mostly of ourselves. It was a reminder of how important it is to think about others, their difficulties, their sacrifices, and that of their families. My friend had two small children who were since fatherless. We should remember that on Veterans Day we should also be remembering the families of veterans, because they sacrifice too.

But my main point in writing this is to call out and offer a salute to Miles Robertson of Salesforce for taking the time to hear the story of this old veteran when he was probably feeling deflated from his previous call. And to salute Salesforce for hiring such a rep and creating a culture that fosters such attitudes.

If you are ever exposed to the Salesforce community, you will hear this term Ohana used quite often. My experience with Miles Robertson that day demonstrates that it's not just the typical marketing buzz-word employed by so many large organizations. but an example of an aspect of corporate culture done right. And it made this former Marine, perhaps a bit less cynical..

Veterans Applying Their Skills To Endangered Animal Conservation

Veterans are all about service that makes a difference in the world!

I was pleased to recently meet James West the Founder and CEO of a great Cyber-Security company Covalent International at a recent SRP event for veterans. James and I really hit it off because of our shared background in intelligence work. I can tell you he is what we refer to in the military as "high speed, low drag".

I was particularly intrigued when James told me about his passion - using the skill that he and others learned from military service to help in the fight to conserve endangered species. So he recently gathered a team of folks with diverse, applicable skills and founded the non-profit ARC Foundation. Their focus in in several African countries for now, especially Namibia. As I understand it, their goal is to provide intelligence and security services to help other conservation organizations to be more successful preserving endangered animal habitats and combating poaching.

Can you imagine a world without this gorgeous critter?

The Pangolin is the most trafficked mammals in the world. On top of that, its habitat is threatened by deforestation, All extant species are endangered, some critically, and several other species are now extinct.

Great board meeting with Operation Enduring Gratitude

Raging Sanity Consultants invited to present updates on the Salesforce Project for Operation Enduring Gratitude

What a great team over there at Operation Enduring Gratitude. It's exciting to see how the organization and their vision for serving veterans in need is growing. I expect big things from this team in the months ahead, and more veterans in need will will have better and safer homes as a result. Yours truly was just there to give an update on the Salesforce Project. We've been matched with a great volunteer from Salesforce who knows the Non Profit Success Pack well. I and the Salesforce team working with OEG have also been boning up on the unique features of the NPSP package.

The NPSP package for Non Profits is a really powerful set of tools for managing fundraising, events, and volunteers. Approved 501(c)(3) organizations can also receive 10 user licenses of Salesforce with the NPSP package pre-installed for free! It really is a very generous way that Salesforce helps those who are trying to make the world a better place.

I also want to express appreciation to the volunteer team, which I expect will get some new task soon. Coco Fuchiki, Thomas Karga, Mario Polanco, and Wendy Wickwire have been and will be great assets. Now with the addition of an NPSP expert from Salesforce who will help with setting up a foundational schema for Operation Enduring Gratitude's Salesforce System, we will be ready to help boost their mission to serve veterans in need.

A Needy Veteran Gets A New Home!

Raging Sanity is honored to partner with Operation Enduring Gratitude to help veterans in need.

This rough video shows the moment that Krista is given the keys to her new home. She was about to be homeless until Operation Enduring Gratitude took the lead in organizing with other great companies, organizations and ministries to help Krista out. Also, by moving to Arizona, Krista is able to help her brother while he is fighting cancer. When the mobile home park saw what was happening, they stepped up and offered to sell the mobile home being remodeled by teams connected to Operation Enduring Gratitude for only $1

Raging Sanity Consultants is honored to be a part of the Operation Enduring Gratitude team. We manage design and manage their website as well as their Salesforce system donated to them by Salesforce.com . I also went out there one Saturday to lend a hand on the project so I could see first hand what they do. There were many other great agencies such as Mesa PD, Mesa Fire, and Archangels among others that provided manpower, resources, free furniture, and funds to make this a July 4th Krista would never forget.
